How to keep your heating system in shape for winter

It’s that time of the year when many of us like to crank up the heater and cozy up under a warm blanket with a hot cup of cocoa.
However, there are a few steps we must take to ensure that our heating system is up to the demands and rigors that the winter season can possibly throw at it. So we’ve compiled a few simple ways to make sure your system is in tip top shape for the coming cold snap:

Be sure your filters are changed or cleaned
One of the easiest things to do is make sure that your system maintenance is up to date. It may seem insignificant, but it’s a simple fix to make sure your system is working properly to keep you warm. It also impacts the overall air quality of your home if they are not changed out or cleaned.

Make sure any potential obstruction is cleared out of the way
If you have any drapes, furniture or other appliances/household items in front of vents in your home that could potentially block air flow, be sure to move them for the time being while your heating system will be most needed.
It’s a pretty common advisement from experts around the industry that doing so can keep air flowing freely, thus reducing the amount of work necessary for your heating system to pump in warm air and preventing future problems with your system.

Clear debris from exterior unit
Once again, this step may not seem like a big deal, but it’s a small action that can have a huge impact on your system’s ability and overall health. Various debris particles such as dirt, ice and more can accumulate on your exterior unit, preventing proper heating levels and overall functions.
